Wednesday 15th July 2026 - Italy

David left Bright around 9am to drive to Skypark (near Tullamarine).  Cathy Ubered over from her Mum's place.  Qantas accepted our luggage all the way through to Rome.  The trip to Perth is about 4h, then a 3h wait for our plane to Rome.  It's a long one at over 16h.  We threaded our way between the Iraq War, and Ukraine Russia.  

Now you know it's Italy

We changed from Emirates so we didn't have transfer through Dubai.  That meant another flight from Rome to Milan was required.  After a 4h wait, it was just a 1h flight.  All on time, a taxi transfer waiting for us.  It felt good to be in Milan.

At least until it didn't!!!  When the hotel asked for my passport, I realised I didn't have my backpack.  A frantic search outside, including asking a few nearby hotels (there are 4 within 100m) it was gone :(  It had all my id, including passport, drivers licence, bank cards, my laptop, medicines and various other things for travel.  What a disaster.

We caught a taxi to the police station and made a report.  Then off to the Australian Consulate to report the theft.  We started the wheels turning for an emergency passport.  Fortunately, I was able to get it within 24 hours, so we could move onto Bormio over the weekend.

Back to the hotel to catch a nap.  It had been over 34 hours of travel and getting things fixed as much as possible.

We had a dinner of Italian Pizza and Beer at "Nice Cafe" just around the corner.
