Conquering Gavia Pass - Sunday 14th June 2015

David has made it to the top of Stelvio and Gavia, but Cathy has only got up to Cancano Lake thusfar, so she set herself the task of reaching the top of the Gavia. Daniele assisted by taking her to the base of the climb in the van. This gave her a 40 minute head start on the boys, who had to ride from Bormio to Santa Caterina before the climb.

Not wanting to be caught before the top, helped to drive her up the slope with maxiumum elevations of 14%. Little photo stops to look at the cows and admire the views also helped to rest the legs. As the peak approached, the temperature dropped and the raindrops began but Cathy pushed on to the top to celebrate arriving 20 minutes before Garry and John, then another 10 minutes until David rolled in. Cathy made it up in 1:38:40. The hot chocolate with cream on top was a well deserved treat. John had the most amazing warm weather gear including heated gloves that Cathy wished she owned as her hands froze on the way down in the rain. Further attempts at mountain climbs above the snowline will be deferred until proper wet weather gear has been purchased!!
