Wednesday 12th June - Ketchikan

Our first port of call was Ketchikan – but 3 other cruise ships had the same idea so all berths were full by the end of the morning and the souvenir shops were doing a roaring trade.
We investigated the Totem Heritage museum and wandered around town taking in the sights and sounds of a different city.
Cathy found a totem of her “twin sister”.
A typical house in Ketchikan. American’s love to display their patriotism.
A salmon ladder next to a small waterfall.
Cathy decided she needed more exercise so ran another 5+km on the treadmill before lunch.  A pair of bald headed eagles swooped down to farewell us as we watched the crew push off ropes and allow us to cruise back out to sea – escorted by US coast guards complete with machine guns.
An afternoon of lectures ran overtime so we were all hanging out for pre dinner drinks and nibbles.  A whale popped up beside the ship as we drank and soaked up the late afternoon sunshine.  Our waiters dressed as Italian gondoliers for dinner tonight.  Limoncello was the special drink of the evening with souvenir shot glasses to take home.  Each night our room attendant, Jaime, places special towel creatures on our bed.  This evening the sea lion looked up at us through Cathy’s specs!
