Menin Gate

Aproximately 40km for Tourhout is Ypres (locally known as Ieper). Ypres was critical in WWI to both the allies and Germany.  Five major battles were conducted around it.

The arch was designed in 1921 and honours the Missing, who have no known graves. 

Every evening at 8pm, buglers from the Last Post Association close the road which passes under the memorial and sound the "Last Post".
