Selwyn's 85th birthday

To celebrate a special birthday, we drove down to sunny Colac for a lunch at the Austral. Selwyn and Irene were looking well and their garden is looking fantastic. We had a fun day.

Monash Children's Community Day

It has been Children's week so there have been many special events at Monash Children's Hospital. To top off the week, we had Radio Lollipop lead a live broadcast from Monash Children's. Cathy was interviewed about what is happening at Monash Children's. Then there were singers and other interviews. David dropped by at the end of his bikeride. Mum and Joel came across to join in the fun.

Nova FM also had a team on site with games and prizes. Joel won a remote control stunt truck.

He then had his face painted like Spiderman and made a shooting star.

Moving up in the world

Cathy's birthday was a perfect excuse to celebrate with friends at the Sofitel. Her friend, Honey, from Brisbane was down for a conference and was able to join us too.

The view from our 41st floor room was amazing.

As David lined up for the 20th "Around the Bay in a day" ride, Cathy watched the balloons take off over the MCG. As David and Luke battled fatigue and pushed the limits of endurance for 240km, Cathy and Melissa had a leisurely breakfast then went off on shopping trips.

We kept track of the boys' progress thanks to iPhone technology so that we could finalise our purchases and cheer our husbands across the finish line.

Shopping bags for the girls and medals for the boys!

AFL Grand Final

The day started full of hope and smiles. We both managed to get much sought after tickets to the big day. Unfortunately (for Cathy and many other Hawthorn supporters) Sydney won the day after a very close and exciting match.

Amy Gran Fondo - September 16th 2012

VIP service was the order of the weekend as David checked in for the first big ride of the season - the Amy Gran Fondo in Lorne. David found himself in the photo of the Startline in 2011.

Saturday was spent carb loading and watching "pocket weather" to see how the forecast was shaping up for Sunday. It was a beautiful Sunday morning, so Cathy waved her hubby off for a long ride through the Otways and set off for a long run along the Great Ocean Road in the opposite direction. A phone call 5 km into her run began with the words "I'm all in one piece - but the seat post of my bike is broken! Pick me up from Wye River when the road opens again at 11am". Although the mechanics carry some parts, carbon fibre seat posts are not available by the roadside. He loaned his wheel to another broken down rider so one wheel went around the course, but David spent the day indulging in a cyclist's second favorite activity - sitting in a coffee shop drinking lattes and eating cake!

The seat post before the ride.
