Cycling around Broome

This year, I packed my bike in my new bike box. I even managed to get it back together :) This morning I rode out to 12 mile and The Mango Place.

It was a tough ride there with a strong headwind. The scones with mango jam and cream made it all worthwhile.

Back in Broome

We are back in Broome. And it was straight to the Town Beach Cafe for our traditional first lunch in Paradise :)

Move it for Monash Children's - Run Melbourne

Today Cathy joined a few thousand friends to Run Melbourne! Monash Children's had entrants in all the events today and I was in the 10km. Despite a cold start, the sun came out to shine so I was glad of my peak cap. We stood out in our neon T Shirts. Sabine Hennel, another paediatrician, ran with me the whole way and we picked up another team member near the end to urge her across the line. Apart from having fun, we raised lots of money for vital equipment. This year we were running to raise money for a retinal camera to help monitor the eye health of our young diabetic patients. I am running second in the overall fundraising, thanks to my very generous friends. I raised $2160 but I am only marginally ahead of my boss and we are a couple of thousand short of our target. If you want to donate, you can still do so for another week via this link:

Here are some pictures of the fun we had.

The New Bike

Picked up my new bike from Waverley Cycles 2 weeks ago. Full carbon frame with Ultegra Di2 (which means it has electronic shifting). No more gear cables to adjust, just press a button and a little motor changes gear for you!! It seems to be lighter than my old bike - it goes uphill faster and comes down slower. I'm racking up the k's and really enjoying it.

Hanging out with Brianna

How much fun can you pack into a weekend? With Brianna, you can do lots. She came for a sleep over at Aunty Cathy's as it is school holidays at the moment. After treating Jenny to a pedicure, we headed home to make pasta - oodles of fettucini!! We let lunch go down then headed to Monash Aquatic & Rec Centre for some fun in the wave pool. Even Uncle David enjoyed that. After a bath and dinner, we got out the board games and taught Brianna to play "Life". She was first to the "Day of Reckoning", but Aunty Cathy won in the end with more money at the millionaire ranch. The tables were turned on Sunday morning when Brianna won with $1,116,500!!! After a walk to the Mt Waverley market, we made our lunch to take to the football. We witnessed Buddy Franklin kick his 500th career goal as Hawthorn thrashed GWS. After a tram ride back to where the car was parked, we drove back to meet Jenny so Brianna could go home again. Can't wait until the next holidays for some more fun.
