My daddy's clever!

We've been back home for a week and trying to catch up on all the mail, things to do at work and all the domestic duties like washing and ironing. The weekend finally arrived and Cathy met up with her friend Diane for a coffee as they often do. Just for a change, they went to Brunswick to see Graeme's paintings on exhibition at the ANZ gallery. They look great on display, but need some little red "sold" stickers don't you think?! Go to 528 Sydney Rd if you want to buy one before Thursday 30th June.

Almost Done!!

As our time in Derby draws to a close, Cathy is madly running around tidying up the "loose" ends. An enormous effort was put in to finish a difficult 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle. What a Champion!!!

Tracking the ISS

It was cold at the wharf, and there weren't many others still there (just the diehard fishermen) and us - waiting for the International Space Station to transit overhead. David had a new iPhone app which showed us it's intended trajectory. And sure enough at 6:12PM, it rose in the SW and tracked quickly across the sky before disappearing in the North about 5 minutes later. It was actually quite bright and very easy to follow (magnitude -3.2). You can imagine those huge solar panels reflecting light back to earth. Just another of the crazy things we do in Derby!!

Another Sunset

Cathy spent the whole day working. We picked up Dorothy from the Hospital to come and enjoy drinks, nibbles and delightful conversation (A Doctor's work is never done!!) Cathy is obviously a local, as everyone walking past stopped to say hello.

Cathy's day off in Derby

When Cathy has a day off, David often says "You can do anything you want - but you can't do everything you want".
The alarm went off at 6.30am to remind Cathy to run before it got too hot. She did a long run while David did a session in the gym riding the bike. Sam Kaiser, the registrar, joined us as we were enjoying our second coffee for the day and took the on call pager away. There has been a jigsaw puzzle sitting on the shelf tempting Cathy all week. She finally cleared the coffee table and got the edge done this afternoon before a trip to the local pool for a swim.

Showered and cleaned up, we headed down to the jetty to watch yet another beautiful sunset. The locals were out fishing. Sam, and her dog Lucy, again joined us for a drink. After they left, David tried to name the stars for Cathy using his iPhone app. It had trouble recognising the moon though so we didn't trust it.

Cathy went off for a drink with the RFDS doctors before dinner and came back with 2 pieces of Sweet Potato Pie - made by Larry. We were too full to sample it tonight after David's yummy pasta sauce and spaghetti.

Who says you can't cram heaps of leisure into a day!!!!

Derby races

Today was the first of the local race days in Derby with Mad Hatters day.

Cathy met up with Emma, an entrant in the Boab Queen competition, who was judging the Mad Hats.

There was plenty of competition in the Best Hat competition.

but the winners were the boat girls

There were the horses..

and the bookies in the betting ring

then there were the races

Andrew and Fong from Boab Pharmacy were sponsors and shared their table with us. It was a fun afternoon with friends.

Fishing at Jacks Creek

On the Jacks Creek experince from Eco Beach, we had a chance to go fishing. Thought we'd share some photos of our success.
First there was an attempt at mud-crabbing.....

then David cast a line in...

He caught about 4 shells this size but threw them back...

then he tried to hold his tongue in the right position...

and he managed to catch this big one!!!

We are in Fitzroy Crossing

We arrived in Fitzroy Crossing on Tuesday.

We are staying in the right hand side of this hospital duplex.

The Community has implemented an alcohol restrictions on takeaway drink. We were also unable to buy full strength beer with our lunch. Although it is available after 2pm.

And it's a long drive to get a full strength beer. I am drying out very nicely - Thanks for asking.

I was planning to drive home but

friendly policeman says "No driving looks a bit broken".
